The short version
Audio Roller is a Windows app that runs on your device. It has no account, no analytics, no telemetry, and no network code at all. There is no Desk Anvil server for it to talk to. The only time it touches the internet is when you click one of its links (the website, Ko-fi, X, or email), which opens in your own browser or mail app.
What is stored, and where
Audio Roller keeps two things in %LOCALAPPDATA%\AudioRoller\:
settings.json— your choices: design and colours, which outputs to show, hotkeys, and the on/off switches.- a small diagnostic log (
AudioRoller.log, plus the previous one) — app events such as "settings opened", switch timings, and your output device names, so a problem can be explained if you choose to send it to me. It is never sent automatically.
If you turn on Start with Windows, it also adds one entry under your user's Windows startup key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\…\Run), removed again when you turn it off. You can open the settings folder from Settings → Help & info. Uninstalling removes the app; delete the folder yourself if you want the settings gone too.
What it reads on your PC
- Your audio devices and volume, through Windows' audio API, to show and switch them.
- What's playing (title, artist, app, and artwork) from Windows' media controls, only to show it in the hover controls. It is kept in memory while shown and never written to disk or sent anywhere.
- The mouse wheel over the taskbar. To change volume by scrolling the taskbar, Audio Roller watches mouse-wheel input and acts only when the pointer is over the taskbar; everywhere else it passes straight through. The one exception: while the roller is briefly revealed over a fullscreen video, the wheel changes volume anywhere on screen until the roller hides again (about a second after you stop). Keystrokes are never read. You can turn this off in Settings.
- A few pixels of the taskbar, only if you choose Background → Match taskbar, so the roller can match its colour. Nothing else on your screen is read, and no image is saved.
What we never do
- No analytics, usage tracking, or telemetry of any kind
- No account, login, or email collection
- No selling, sharing, or transferring of your data to us or to third parties
- No recording of audio, and no reading of keystrokes
- No automatic upload of the log — it leaves your PC only if you attach it to a message yourself
Children
Audio Roller is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children.
Changes
Any change to this policy will be published on this page with a new date. A change that affects what data is handled will also be noted in the app's release notes.
