ChatPick is an independent Chrome extension for selecting, copying, downloading, and saving conversation messages from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Google Search AI Mode. The extension is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, or Google.

What the extension reads

On ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and grok.com, the packaged content script reads rendered messages from the current conversation locally. The grok.com reader is available only after the user grants optional site access. On X's /i/grok route, the reader is injected only after a toolbar click using temporary activeTab access; the extension does not request permanent X host access. It scans when the page loads or changes and when the user opens or refreshes the panel. A page observer can keep the in-memory message list current while the panel is closed. Scanning alone does not save conversation content to persistent storage.

Google Search AI Mode is handled differently. The extension does not have permanent access to Google Search pages and does not automatically read them. When the user clicks the ChatPick toolbar button on an AI Mode results page, Chrome's activeTab permission lets the extension inject its packaged reader into that tab. The reader only handles a Google Search page identified as AI Mode. The user can then select messages to copy, download, or save.

The extension does not crawl an account's conversation library. The archive page can capture supported conversations in already-open tabs only when the user explicitly chooses that action. X Grok and Google Search AI Mode must first be opened with the toolbar button on that tab.

What is stored

  • Panel and export preferences are stored in Chrome's local extension storage.
  • A local successful-export count controls a one-time Ko-fi invitation shown after the third successful copy or download.
  • Conversation content is stored in Chrome's local extension storage only when the user chooses Save to archive. This archive is inside the browser profile, not the Downloads folder.
  • Copy writes the selected messages to the clipboard after the user chooses Copy.
  • Download creates a separate file in the browser's Downloads location after the user chooses Download. Downloaded files remain under the user's control.

Removing the extension removes its local extension data through Chrome's normal uninstall process. Downloaded files are not removed.

Network and sharing

The extension does not send conversation text, page titles, page URLs, preferences, or saved archives to Desk Anvil or another server. It uses no private provider endpoint, cookies, API tokens, analytics, telemetry, advertising, affiliate rewriting, or error-reporting service. It does not intercept or change the providers' own network requests; each service continues its normal online operation.

If the user opens a Desk Anvil, Ko-fi, or X link, the browser visits that external site. The extension does not include conversation content in those links. Sending feedback opens the user's email application with the extension version in the message and does not attach chat content.

Permissions and site access

  • storage and unlimitedStorage store preferences, the local export count, and conversations explicitly saved to the archive.
  • scripting injects the packaged reader after the user clicks the toolbar button on a supported tab that was already open when the extension was installed or reloaded.
  • activeTab provides temporary access to the current tab after a toolbar click. It is used for X Grok and Google Search AI Mode so the extension does not need permanent access to either site.
  • Optional host access to grok.com is requested only after the user clicks the toolbar button while on Grok. If granted, it supports the on-page reader and exporter entry point there.
  • Host access to chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, and gemini.google.com supports the on-page reader and exporter entry point.

The extension does not request browsing-history, cookie, identity, downloads, or unrelated-site permissions. It does not request permanent X or Google Search host access.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Conversation content, page metadata, local archives, and Chrome API information are used only to provide message selection, copy, download, and local archive features. They are not transferred to Desk Anvil or another party, used for advertising, or made available for human review.
